Average ROI Of SEO Services
Recently we pulled the data on our SEO customers to see what kind of ROI they are receiving. Here are the most up to date numbers. This ROI takes into account 3 years of recurring revenue past the date of SEO costs if the business has a recurring revenue model.
Minimum = 49%
Average = 967%
Maximum = 2,464%
The Break Even On SEO Services Example
Here is a simple example to calculate the ROI on an SEO service. The formula to calculate the ROI is as follows.
[(Total Revenue From SEO Services x Variable Profit Margin) - Total SEO Service Costs For Time Period]/Total SEO Service Costs For Time Period
Usually when we look at the ROI of our own marketing spending we look at a 3 year time period. If you decide to use the same method for calculating ROI here is an example of how to calculate the ROI.
In this example we will say that a company has spent a total of $5,000 over the course of a year with their SEO company. As a result of this work, sales from the SEO services have been $10,000 in one time orders and an additional $5,000 in sales that are recurring orders that will occur for the next 10 years. For every sale the company makes, variable costs are 70% of the revenue so the variable profit margin is 30%). If you don't know your variable profit margin 30% is a good number to use as most companies have a variable profit margin of 30-60%.
Using a 3 year time period total revenue from SEO services would be = $10,000 + $5,000 x 3 = $25,000
Total costs of the SEO services for the year were = $5,000
SEO Service ROI = [($25,000 x 30%) - $5,000]/$5,000
SEO Service ROI = 50%
Or in other words for ever $1 the company spent on SEO services it got $0.50 in additional profit after the SEO costs.
